Yang steps down, what next for Yahoo!

18 Nov

“Despite the external environment we face, the fact remains that yahoo! is now a significantly different company that is stronger in many ways than it was just 18 months ago. this only makes it all the more essential that we manage this opportunity to leverage the progress up to this point as effectively as possible.”

These were some of the words that Jerry Yang wrote in his memo to all the Yahoo staff after the Board of Directors announced that he was to step down upon finding a successor.

Yang, who will resume his previous role as Chief Yahoo! and continue to serve on the board will help Roy Bostock in the search for a new CEO who can “take Yahoo to the next level”. He (yang) said the he was in constant dialogue with the board about stepping down and that he was only brought in to make the transformation of Yahoo!’s direction and focus.

Personally I wonder how much pushing was going on, with a failed merger and share values that are over half the value they were when Yang was appointed under his name, his story does not make the most pleasant of reads.

So now we wait to see who is to take over and then we will judge whether or not Yahoo has a hope.
