It's raining in Googles cloud.

*This is a pre-written post and so is a little out of date*

Not more than two weeks after Google had a major downtime in it’s Gmail service which was then hit by a major phishing scam, it appears that yet more bad column inches has befell the company I like so much. The problem lies this time with the Google docs, more specifically the privacy of the documents within the system.

In a privacy error that underscores some of the biggest problems surrounding cloud-based services, Google has sent a notice to a number of users of its Document and Spreadsheets products stating that it may have inadvertently shared some of their documents with contacts who were never granted access to them.

This for me is one of the big issues with cloud computing, the security of the whole premise needs to be perfect, 110% solid all the time if businesses are going to use it for mainstream day-to-day processes. I believe the idea is technically very good and indeed will become the method for doing day to day things over the next few years but until issues like this are sorted I will certainly not be putting my info into any clouds.

Thanks goes to Dave for the title of this post, (he would have complained if I had not mentioned him). Also he has developed and released an app for the iPhone search for “iNeedaWee” in the app store and check it out!!!
