3rd time lucky

21 May

Totally off the tech topic but warrants a post.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes last night completed a challenge that on his 1st attempt gave him a heart attack. He completed an attempt on the summit of Mount Everest around midnight last night UK time. Upon arriving at the summit he talked to the BBC and exclaimed that
“this is the closest you can get to the moon by walking”. Fiennes, 65 becomes the oldest Briton to scale the mountain and the 1st person to cross both of the earths poles and scale Everest.

He kept his 3rd charity based attempt fairly low key, he was climbing for Marie Curie Cancer Care after his wife, mother and sister were all taken by the disease within 18 months of each other.

In 2005 he attempted Everest for the first time but after having a heart attack he turned back. His second attempt in 2008 was ended after exhaustion took it’s toll on the adventurer. All these feats were taken after Fiennes had a triple heart bypass in 2003.

Well done Sir Fiennes a truly amazing feat.

OMG …….. HOW?

14 Jan

Just saw this on Engadget Mobile and had to Re-post it. Geeze this Girl needs to get out more.

In December, Reina Hardesty sent 14,258 text messages, which works out to 470 a day, or one every two minutes. Father Hardesty — he’s not a priest, we just don’t happen to know his full name — apparently caught on to his daughter’s madness when he received a 440-page bill from AT&T, which, we’re really hoping, was the electronic kind. This story does have a happy ending, mind you: the parents had wisely opted for unlimited texting for the youngster and have now applied an electronic muzzle on her texting after dinner.

Thank god for unlimited txt plans.

I'm Late, I'm Late, I'm Late

22 Nov

Much like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland I have been rushing around all over the place recently (though not actually been late) and thus my blog has been quiet. Next week will see things getting back to normal and has me back working where I should be.

I have tomorrow off as well so I can get some posting done then.

In the mean time head over to www.flickr.com/photos/andrewwardlaw to see some of my new pictures. I have to say I am pretty proud of them!

Randy Pausch dies aged 47

25 Jul

I just read this news via Twitter, Daniel Brusilovsky’s twitter to be precise:

I never had the privilege of meeting Randy but I did hear his famous “Last Lecture” via youtube. I strongly urge anyone who has not seen this lecture to take an hour out of your day and watch/listen to it. It really changed my view on a lot of things and made me think long and hard about things in my life.

I extend my sincerest condolences to Randy’s wife and children and indeed all his family.

Today the world is a poorer place for losing such a special man.

Rest in Peace Randy

Lost in Space

20 Sep

Ok so they aren’t lost in fact they are at the moment floating over India! but they aren’t coming back today :( due to weather and the fact they spotted an object floating around the earth in time with thier orbit, they have delayed the landing till tomorrow at 6.21 edt (11.21 bst). The object is causing them some headaches at the mo, because it’s unidentified (yes it is a UFO) they cannot tell if it is just say a piece of ice or something more important from the shuttle! So now they are checking the structural integrity of the shuttle again!!

Here is a quote

The STS-115 crew completed scheduled inspections of Space Shuttle Atlantis’ heat shield this morning. The astronauts used cameras on the shuttle’s robotic arm to conduct the scans.

Imagery specialists and engineers are reviewing the data from today’s inspection and from previous activities to see if focused inspections with the orbiter boom sensor system are necessary.

For a better explanation of what I have just said watch this video!

Oh and now the shuttle is over Mexico! Fast isn’t it!!

WOW it's been a while

17 May

Ok folks, it’s been over a month since I last posted, obviously I have some amazing reason for this like…. I won the lottery and have been sunning myself on an island i bought……. or…….. I was done for money laundering and put inside for a month then escaped!!! But sadly no neither of these were the reason. In truth I have just been rather busy both with JPA and my own businesses and my rather hectic social calander (don’t I sound so popular).

So what has been happening to me recently?? Well most recently I spent two wonderful days in Darlington. I was up there opening a new office for my company and setting up all the IT equipment. Unfortuantly the story was not all wonderful. I went up on Monday with the view that I was going to get up there find the equipment all waiting for me, set it all up and come home the same day. Of course this meant I had a bag with my laptop, and another with some cables and IT bits etc etc.. of course no change of clothes or wash kit was taken. So when on the train (using the WiFi internet that GNER so kindly provided at a hefty cost), I get a call from one of the employees due to start at the office saying "was there supposed to be some equipment here?" my heart sank faster than the titanic. The suppliers had messed up, I asked for delivery on the friday and they had not done it. I instantly got on the blower and called the suppliers to find out where our stuff was. The jist of it, it was still in thier warehouse and had no hope of getting delivered today! Bloody wonderful! So i spent a day in darlington working remotely and setting up anything i could (which wasn’t much) I then had to book a hotel and all that and of course with no change of clothes, or washing kit when I got to the hotel to find that it had no shop or anything i was not best pleased! So i had to wash my shirt as best i could in the bath and dry it over night and luckily there was some shower gel in the bathroom!

The next day the pc equipment was delivered and I was able to do my job, but by 2pm that afternoon i was very tired, unshaven, smelly and really wanting to go home and have a bath. So i got a lift to the station and got on a train and came home! All in all a fairly poor experience for me and i got to see nothing of Darlington itself I am told i didn’t miss much!

Other things that happened to me in the last month? Well ITFC finished the season in thier worst position for 44 years and then parted with thier manager! I finished the Automatic watering system finally though due to a hosepipe ban have no idea if it works or not Undecided. I booked tickets to see One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest in London and I am going to that this Saturday, so that should be good! I also went back to Suffolk for my best mates 22nd birthday, we took his boat up the Norfolk broads from Lowestoft to Norwich and boy did we drink to much! stayed the night in Norwich and went clubbing, which all added to the drunkeness, but a good time was had by all and the next morning was certainly an interesting time with hangovers and walking to morrisons in an inside out t-shirt shorts and builders boots (it was a rather funny sight)

Apart for that the same old things have been happening to me, the date for me leaving JPA is getting ever nearer, and with that I have been concentrating on my own businesses a bit more with my 2 newest ventures taking priorty. Check out www.adstoday.co.uk and keep checking as this we are sure is going to be the next big thing (maybe)

Right i have rambled on far to long now so I am going to finish, and believe me I’ll be posting again soon!

The Weekend and a Darlin little girl

11 Apr

I went to Birmingham this weekend, I was visiting family that live up there. It was lovely to see them all again, Especially my cousins who i have not seen in years and I got to meet The lovely Tia, the daughter of Nicola (one of my cousins) and boy is she a darlin!!!! Infact she was so lovely I think I spent more time watching and playing with her than i did conversing with those in the house that can talk! Well Tia can talk just she can only say "dad" "bad" and "grandad".

The weekend was great overall went out on Saturday Night which was certainly good fun and full of drink!!!! SO i got in about 3am and by 7am the Darling tia was no longer a darlin infact she was a big bundle of grumpy very loud noise! But at the at point i was awake and some what hungover, but alas i got up and went and kept her amused so mum could sleep for a while, which she appreciated greatly! The rest of sunday was spent amusing Tia and the 3 of us (my cousins and me) recoving from the night before!

The train journey back was a nightmare though, I got the train at 6pm and it was packed I was squished against a door all the way back (a 2 hour journey) so by the end of the journey my legs were knackered and so was I! I got home about 9:15 after getting the tube and all that jazz.

This weekend is going to be a mix of working from home, doing gardening and housework as well as working on my businessess! Oh well no rest for the wicked (or those who want to be millionaires)

As a last note i’d like to say well done to My mate and business partner Matthew Spriggs who just got his own radio show on Regency FM! Tune in Sundays 5-6 to here the master at work!

right now what language do I teach you all today??

Watering Systems and the Sun

04 Apr

So the weekend came and went the sun was out and I could get things done! I went up to B and Q and got the automated watering system for the garden. Ok before anyone says anything I know we have a hose pipe ban and I am not planning on using it i just need to get it put in before any other plants can be planted! So I had to get that and I had start putting it in! it was nice because the sun was most of the time! Last week was pretty pants it has to be said come friday afternoon i was knackered but the weekend sorted me out and this week has so far been good! I am working late tomrrow so that will certainly put a dampner on the good week! on the other hand my boss is away Thurs and Fri so thats good!

Not much else to say , town lost again, i need a drink, and oh off to Brum on friday for the weekend! lucky lucky me!
